Details
The Gilbert family coach & carriage hire firm profited from the growth of North Berwick as a tourist resort. The driver of the coach is James Gilbert who ran the business for many years and also held the office of provost of North Berwick.
This is a sepia photograph on card. It shows a row of houses with a coach & figures. A sign on a building wall reads 'James Gilbert Carriage Hirer'. A line across the photograph suggests it is a copy of a creased paper original.
