This oil painting by William Darling MacKay, depicts a pastoral scene in which a flock of sheep are feeding on some turnips. Low hills and fields surround the fold of sheep, beneath a large expanse of blue sky.
William Darling MacKay was born in Gifford in 1844. His love of nature and the beauty of East Lothian's countryside is reflected in the pastoral artwork that he produced. He died in Edinburgh in 1924.
