Details
This Tea Caddy is an example of the Macaroni design showing Macaroni figure and woman. This is a painted design with the figures in relief, showing a bewigged gentleman with a lady standing behind him on one side. The other side shows two bewigged gentlement.
Such caddies were fashionable in the early 1800s. Although similar caddies were also made in Staffordshire this piece is important to East Lothian because it is clear from moulds found during excavations of our Prestongrange Museum that this type of caddy was also made in Prestonpans in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
