Narcissus trophy: Accession No. 2009.15

This object is a trophy presented to the winner of a horse race held in Dunbar in 1885. It is believed to have been presented by the owner of racehorse 'Narcissus', Benjamin Hepburn, to the jockey Mr E.C. White following a spectacular performance in the races at Belhaven in 1885. At the time she won three of the nine races on the card and after the final race was 'bought in' for 67 guineas.

Description

A bowl, mostly wood though with brass edging and a small plaque, with wooden handles on either side. The plaque states "C.C.W. from B.H. A Memento of "NARCISSUS" Dunbar Races 18th July 1885."
