Details
In 1970, the opening of Musselburgh's new civic complex, the Brunton Hall, was marked by the gift of new regalia from the architects of the project. They were to be worn by two of the town's bailies or magistrates.
This silver badge of office is mounted on a neck-chain of circular links. The face showing reads PRESENTED BY THE ARCHITECTS ROWAND ANDERSON, KININMONTH & PAUL TO ... MUSSELBURGH ... THE THIRD BAILIE; the other face is a relief of Musselburgh's arms.
Most Scottish Royal Burghs accumulated regalia decorations to be worn by their elected representatives. The presentation of chains of office often marked royal visits or important civic events.
