Details
In common with many other works, Prestongrange Brick and Fireclay Works produced decorative garden wares in some quantity. This tree-stump flower pot is typical of these manufactures.
This is a ceramic flowerpot, with a drain-hole in the base. The body has been shaped and decorated to resemble a stump or log of wood. The effect is enhanced by using brown and green glazes on the textured exterior.
Suburban expansion of Scotland's towns and cities was accompanied by an increase in demand for garden wares. Catalogues, inventories and a few marked examples show that Scotland's industrial brickworks could turn out a wide range of pots, planters, furniture and path-edging tiles.
