Details
Black or white fingerless mittens were worn by women as part of their day-wear attire during the 1830s and 1840s. Evening gloves of a similar fingerless variety, were worn during the evening.
This pair of tiny black mittens are made from netted silk, and have a delicate lacy appearance. Three parallel lines of embroidered spots, decorate the back of the glove.
During the 1850s silk mittens were replaced with short, soft kid leather gloves. White ones were worn for evening engagements.
