This watercolour painting details the frontages of two small scale local shops in Haddington High Street during the late 1940s.
This painting illustrates the frontage of number thirty-two Haddington High Street, which in 1947, housed bakery and plumbing businesses above which were some domestic flats.
Dorothea Nimmo Smith was born in Haddington in 1889. A keen amateur artist, she painted and sketched many scenes from her surroundings in and around Haddington. A large collection of her work is held by East Lothian Council's Museum Service. The collection is a rich visual source for those who are interested in recent local history.
