This watercolour painting depicts a night time scene in Haddington High Street. Groups of people stand chatting to each other on the High Street. The skyline is dominated by the spire of Haddington Town House which rises to the full moon in the sky.
Designed by the architect William Adam, father of Robert Adam, Haddington town House was built in 1748 and extended in 1788. The Town House's steeple was added in 1830. Once housing the County Sheriff Court, the building is now used for community council meetings and local events.
