Details
This is a pair of pages written at the end of August 1767 describing the output of Bryans colliery and the costs incurred during a week's working. All the colliers and their output are listed as are an inventory of those to whom payments were made.
This is a pair of pages extracted from a hand written ledger. They have been mounted side-by-side in a frame to display a week's accounts from BRYANS COLLIERY. All the colliers are named as are some of those to whom payments were made.
This account gives an impression of the work of a typical eighteenth century colliery. The 13 colliers produced 473 tubs valued at around £17. In the same period payments to on-cost workers (e.g. the grieve, oversman, and the colliers themselves) were around £10, producing a £7 surplus.
