This watercolour painting by William Gillies, currently hangs in East Lothian Council headquarters, in Haddington. East Lothian Council Museums Service is fortunate to have a small collection of his artwork amongst their collections.
This watercolour painting is entitled, 'Loch Tummel'. It depicts the loch and two small fishing boats nestled beneath three tall conifer trees.
William George Gillies (1898-1973) was born in Haddington on the 21st of September, 1898. He studied for his degree at the Edinburgh College of Art and after travelling for a time, he returned to the college as a teacher. He is critically acclaimed as being one of the foremost Scottish Watercolorists of his time.
