Portable organ: Accession Number 1999.32.1

Portable organs like this one were used to accompany chorus singing on beaches (and in church halls during wet weather) at services of the Children's Special Service Mission. Organised games and bright banners also helped to make the CSSM a memorable feature of a 1930s seaside holiday.

This is a PEARL RIVER portable organ in a wood carrying case. The case corners have chromed metal protectors, and there are locks and a handle on one side. In one side of the box are two folding legs and a bellows pedal bar; the other opens to display the keyborad and music lectern.
