Details
Throughout the years of World War II, Britain held a National War Weapons Week, with an emphasis on collecting money to help supply the forces with munitions. The National Spitfire Fund was an offshoot of this. Posters such as the one pictured here, were displayed to inspire the patriotism and generosity of people at the 'Home Front'.
This brightly coloured poster illustrates a dramatic battle scene between some British Spitfire aeroplanes and some German fighter planes. As this was a British poster, the Spitfires are naturally pictured winning the 'dogfight' in the sky. Large blue text beneath the picture simply states, 'BACK THEM UP!'.
Posters such as these publicised campaigns that helped foster public morale and gave the community a focused way to contribute to the war campaign.
