Belfield's pottery flourished in Prestonpans from the early nineteenth century until around the time of World War II. They produced a wide range of articles, but eventually concentrated on tea and coffee sets for which they sold all over Scotland.
This coffee-pot has a tapering, bulbous body, a short spout and a curved handle decorated with a curlicue. It is bi-coloured, the upper half and lid being green, the lower being simply the glazed body colour, separated by bands of beadwork and stippling.
Belfield's pottery was established in the 1830s in Prestonpans. At first specialising in glazed sanitary ware and drainage pipes they later built a reputation for domestic wares.
