This watercolour painting by William Gillies, currently hangs in East Lothian Council headquarters, in Haddington.

This unusual work has been made in coloured wax on paper in the style of a stitched sampler. It was probably made as an engagement gift - it features entwined hearts and love-birds.

In 1929 WS McGeorge married Mabel Victoria Elliot, the widow of Hugh Munro and a watercolourist in her own right. He died at Gifford on 9 November 1931 but she outlived him by nearly thirty years.

The contrasting beauty of the countryside and coastline of East Lothian, has made the area an inspiration to artists throughout the centuries.
